About Miles

Miles Burnett is a fourth-generation Binghamtonian. Raised in a Southside family of union members, including police officers, firefighters, nurses, and teachers, he learned the power of community and effective leadership early on.

Before launching his campaign for Mayor of Binghamton, Miles served as Deputy Chief of Staff for State Senator Lea Webb, working collaboratively with a dynamic team to secure millions of dollars in funding for the Southern Tier. He helped advance legislation to strengthen consumer protections against utility companies, advanced environmental protections, and delivered increased funding for Binghamton’s public schools. He also maintained close relationships with local leaders to resolve pressing constituent issues.

Miles previously worked as an aide to New York City Council Member Andrew Cohen. In that role, he advocated for critical resources from the City's budget and addressed constituent concerns. Following his tenure in the local government, he served as Executive Director of a non-profit leading a Business Improvement District to grow public safety initiatives, improve sanitation, and guide economic development projects. When the COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented difficulties for small businesses he played a critical role securing hundreds of thousands of dollars in disaster relief grants.

Growing up in Binghamton, Miles saw firsthand the challenges working families face and has dedicated his career to making government work for the people. As Mayor, he will leverage his wide expertise in state and local budgeting and finance to expand economic opportunities, invest in infrastructure, and build a more prosperous and inclusive future for Binghamton families.
